Now that Diamond, Ruby, and Jewel are away at college, Victoria has a lot of free time on her hands. Lately, she’s offered unsolicited help to Renee regarding her wedding. Everyone who knows Renee knows she’d been dreaming of her big day since painting watercolors in the nursery. She’s got definite ideas how this day should go but doesn’t want to hurt her Nana’s feelings. So she’s asked Jasmine to talk to Victoria, her mom, so she could have some breathing room.
Rather than talk to her mom, Jasmine reached out to her sisters, Diamond, Ruby and Jewel. She wants them to call their mom and visit more often. When she talks to Ruby, she learns, Ruby has met a guy and is living with him. Scared of how their father, Jacques, will react, the other two, Diamond and Jewel have been covering for her, which is why they haven’t been home in months. Uncertain if she should tell her mom, Jasmine talks the matter over with Renee, her sister.
Renee fails to see the problem and thinks Ruby should be honest and let their mom know what’s going on. As a mom, Jasmine would want to know and agrees. The next day, Ruby takes her older sisters advice and tells her parents why she hasn’t been home in months. Victoria mistakes what Ruby is saying and begins talking about another wedding. Excited, Victoria barely allows Ruby to speak as she reminds her daughter that neither Jasmine nor Renee had weddings and this would be her first.
Unable to hurt her mom’s feelings, Ruby doesn’t correct the misunderstanding. Instead, she calls Jasmine, while she and Renee are shopping, crying about her life being ruined. Jasmine takes a few minutes to comfort her sister but refuses to fix this mess by telling her mom Ruby’s news.
The following weekend, Jewel, Ruby and Diamond come home for a weekend visit. Jewel and Diamond leave Ruby alone with their mom and head for Renee’s to see how the wedding’s coming and to talk to Jasmine. Jacques comes in before Ruby’s explained the mix-up and can tell immediately something’s wrong. Ruby runs to him, spills her story and asks him to help tell her mom.
Jacques and Ruby enter the living room where Victoria is surrounded by wedding magazines and books. Her eyes light up when she sees Ruby. Delighted, Victoria begins talking about the wedding. When she winds down, Jacques takes her hand and explains what really happened. There’s no wedding. Not for any of their pups.
Seeing how upset Ruby had become, Victoria set aside her disappointment and accepted her daughter’s apology. While holding Ruby and rubbing her back to calm her down, Victoria realized her child never said she was getting married. That had been in her mind and she’d run with it. Embarrassed and sorry for the problems she created, Victoria made peace with the fact she had to wait. There was no going back in time for “do-overs.” Her two oldest daughters did not and were not having weddings for her to plan. That would be a dream for another day.
